Abstract

This work aims to discuss unique Brazilian cultural experiences with the use of information and communication technologies to give strength to the idiosyncratic cultural expressiveness of the stories of the excluded, such as women, blacks, the elderly, immigrants, and refugees, among others. One of these initiatives, by giving opportunity to the diversity of voices, who want to be heard, is the research project of the group “Intercultural Studies in Distance Education: Life Narratives of the Different Brasis” of the Paulista University (UNIP / Brazil). Another significant experience is the laboratory of the “Epistemology of Social Dialogue” research group, coordinated by Prof. Cremilda Medina, a pioneer in social communication studies in Brazil and Latin America. The epistemology of social dialogue is based on what Cremilda defines as the “sign of the social relationship”, which is built from the creative interaction through the face-to-face act, the poetics of interpretation, and the pedagogy of affections. The third experience to be considered in this work will be the project “Museu da Pessoa” (Museum of the People), which is a virtual and collaborative museum of life stories open to the participation of any common person, who wants to tell their life story. In this way, the museum organizes several collections of collective and cultural memories, involving stories of people of all ages, races, creeds, and professionals from Brazil. Through these three projects of practical cultural memories, the intention is to build a cohesive relationship between theory and practice to analyze the diversity of experiences that enrich our knowledge of the multifaceted Brazilian cultural world for the development of emancipation and empowerment strategies, catalyzing the strategies of life narratives as tools to elucidate collective and cultural memories of Brazilian experiences.

Keywords: Cultural and Collective Memories, Life-Narratives, Other Stories, Empowerment and Emancipation, Social Dialogue and Critical Thinking.
